These glasses are often called "Tear" bottles because they were common offerings in tombs, and because one early famous published example was found with a clear liquid inside… Also known as "candlestick" bottles after their shape, these bottles have a long thin neck to slow the evaporation of precious perfumes. This is the FIRST type of blown glass, and according to ancient historians and archaeological evidence, blown glass was probably invented in Israel. The invention of blown glass in the 1st cen bce revolutionized glass manufacture: instead of a rare exclusive luxury item it became a practical everyday vessel, affordable to the average consumer.
