Greco-Roman Gold Star Pendant set with garnet restrung with red Carnelian and Gold Beads Necklace
Greco-Roman Nabatean gold star pendant set with central garnet cabochon, restrung with 4 gold crescent pendants, decorated gold tube beads and red carnelian faceted cube beads. All original, restrung Roman beads with modern 20kt gold S-hook clasp. Ca 100 ce. This necklace has sun-moon iconography. Crescent shapes were popular among Jewish women of the Biblical period. Isaiah 3:18-21 : “In that day the Lord will take away the finery of the anklets, the headbands, and the crescents; the pendants, the bracelets and the scarfs; the headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; the signet rings, and nose rings…”.
