Egyptian lapis amulet, a representation of the moon god Thoth as a baboon wearing a crescent moon head-dress. The baboon was the sacred symbol of the goddess Isis and was associated with the moon, magic and mathematics. Baboons are said to howl at the moon. Late Period, ca. 600 bce.
